The Brian Cleary Story:
(Reader's Digest Version - not that it would be any better were it any longer)

The 5th of 6th children, I grew up on a farm in Cortez, Pennsylvania in the Pocono Mountains.    A graduate of California State College .... (wait for it) ... of Pennsylvania (also known as Harvard on the Mon), I've been working in radio all my life.    My "what you want to be when you grow-up" 8th paper said Disc Jockey.

Having lived and worked in such wonderful cities as Harrisburg and Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Flint, Michigan and Hagerstown and Salisbury, Maryland, I'm happy to be in Charleston!!

I don't know if you're like me, but I believe you can find out about a person, in part, by his or her likes and interests - see if you share any of mine:

Things I Love:
My Wife Elaine, the Simpsons (Homer is the Man!), the beach, pizza, Penn State Football, ice cold draft beer, going to concerts, playing basketball and/or soccer.

Things I Could Do Without:
Government, snow and cold weather, pineapple, the Dallas Cowboys, most rap music, spoiled, overpaid actors/athletes/entertainers, chain e-mails.

Something that people tell me:
I look like a young, or at least younger, Clint Eastwood.    I'll take that!

Things I'm looking forward to:
Meeting the people who listen to Y1025!

A Frightening Read
Friday 08-29-2008 2:28pm ET

As we hit the 3rd Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, it reminded me of one of the most frightening things I have ever read on a news wire.    Normally, the AP and National Weather Service are generic and conservative in their writing.     Not so on this weather bulletin that was issued for Katrina.     This is the actual text of a weather alert issue the morning before the storm hit New Orleans.     It's scary how accurate they were in what they wrote:

URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW ORLEANS LA
1011 AM CDT SUN AUG 28 2005

DEVASTATING DAMAGE EXPECTED

HURRICANE KATRINA A MOST POWERFUL HURRICANE WITH UNPRECEDENTED STRENGTH...RIVALING THE INTENSITY OF HURRICANE CAMILLE OF 1969.

If You Thought Bullwinkle Was the Cutest Moose ...
Wednesday 08-06-2008 2:52pm ET

If you're a Mom, or you love animals (or both), take a look at this video I found on You Tube.        It's more than just cute ... you may want to have a tissue handy, just in case, but not because it's sad.

The Last Lecture
Friday 07-25-2008 2:30pm ET

I never knew Randy Pausch, but I was nontheless sadden when I read of his passing today, Friday, July 25th.    I only knew of him, and of his story.      Perhaps you've heard of his "Last Lecture."

Randy Pausch was a 47 year old Carnegie Mellon University computer scientist whose "last lecture" about facing terminal cancer is one of the most inspriational things I have ever watched.      There is a lot of video on the internet, some of it entertaining, some of it informative .... most of it, a waste of time.

At the risk of being preachy, the 76 minutes you spent watching the Last Lecture will be time well spent.

This is so true that it's almost sad ...

Will Ferrell & Pablo Cruise
Wednesday 07-16-2008 3:14pm ET

Are you a fan of Will Ferrell?   Do you remember the 70's/early 80's band Pablo Cruise?     They had hits like "Love Will Find A Way" and "Watcha Gonna Do."     The two are now connected, thanks to Ferrell's new movie "Step Brothers" which opens up on July 25th and looks hilarious.      Check out the trailer to the movie so see the connection - it's right at the beginning - don't miss it.

Millions of Dollars Are Just Waiting
Tuesday 07-15-2008 2:34pm ET

Is it just me?     In the last few weeks, I've been getting more and more spam - but all of the same type.      Even the United Nations wants to give me money:

WORLD BANK GROUP AND UNITED NATION ORGANIZATION do hereby give this irrevocable approval order with Release Code: GNC/3480/02/00 in your favor for your contract entitlement/award winning payment with the UNITED NATION to your nominated bank account. Now you?re new Payment,United nations Approval No;UN5685P,White House Approved No:WH44CV, Reference No.-35460021, Allocation No: 674632 Password No: 339331 , Pin Code No: 55674 and your Certificate of Merit Payment No : 103 , Released Code No: 0763; Immediate Citibank Telex confirmation No: -1114433 ; Secret Code No: XXTN013, Having received these vital payment number , therefore You are qualified now to received and confirm Your payment with the United Nation immediately within the next 72hrs.
They've got 8.3 million dollars waiting for me - all I need to do is give them my bank account number and routing number.     But I'm sure they're only going to use those numbers to deposit money, not withdraw anything from my account.     After all, they've provided me a Password Number, a Pin Code Number, and even a Secret Code Number.

I also receive this nice e-mail letter:

Hello Dear

My name is Mrs. Elena Morris; I am a dying woman who has decided to
donate what I have to you and the charity organization around your community. I am 62 years old and I was diagnosed for cancer for about 2 years ago immediately after the death of my husband who has left me everything he worked for and because the doctors told me I will not live longer than some weeks because of my health i decided to WILL/donate the sum of $5.700.000.00 to you.

I'm so sorry that she is dying, but it's nice of her to will/donate 5.7 million to me.
In all, I've got about 25 million in overseas bank accounts just waiting for me.    Why the heck am I wasting money trying to hit the Power Ball Jackpot?

One thing though ... when these people are sending out this stuff, you'd think they would have someone proofread it before they sent it out.     Certainly they'd have a better chance of being believed if it didn't seem like it was written by a 3rd grader!
Gas Saving Tips
Friday 07-18-2008 2:40pm ET

The high price of gas is killing all of us.    Here's a few tips to save your some fuel, which, in turn, could save you some cash:

• Remember a lighter car is more gas efficient:

Instead of filling the tank, keep your gas tank half full

Take everything unnecessary out of the trunk & backseat
• Don’t idle your engine – turn the car off when stopping for more than
       30 seconds
• Change your air filter at least every 10,000 miles
• Inflate tires to slightly more than "recommended" levels
• When in slow or stop-and-go traffic, turn off your car's air conditioner
• Use your cruise control whenever possible to maintain a constant
       speed
